British Jewish Support for Two-State Solution Drops Below Half, JPR Finds

Publication of the poll intensifies UK debate over potential recognition of Palestine.

Overview

  • The Jewish Policy Research survey of more than 4,800 UK Jews conducted in June and July finds support for a two-state outcome at 49 percent, down from 54 percent in 2024 and 78 percent in 2010.
  • Half of respondents say no path exists for Israel and a Palestinian state to coexist peacefully, while 21 percent believe coexistence is possible.
  • Only 19 percent back Israel taking full control of Gaza, a small rise from 16 percent last year but still a minority view.
  • Younger British Jews are more likely to reject a two-state framework and show greater openness to a binational Israeli-Palestinian state.
  • The Board of Deputies of British Jews, joined by counterparts in Australia and Canada, urges tying any recognition to hostage returns, Hamas disarmament and aid safeguards, as senior Anglican and Catholic leaders condemn the Gaza City offensive as futile.
