Overview

  • On May 31, the Trentino Alpine and Speleological Rescue team located Aziz Ziriat’s remains in a rocky crevice in the Italian Dolomites.
  • His body was found about 1,000 metres from and 400 metres below where Samuel Harris’s remains were recovered on January 8.
  • Ziriat and Harris, both experienced hikers, went missing on January 1 after leaving the Casina Dosson mountain hut during a planned hut-to-hut trek.
  • Search operations were repeatedly delayed by heavy snowfall, strong winds and sub-zero temperatures at high altitudes.
  • The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has been supporting Ziriat’s family since the discovery of his death.
