Overview

• Mark Gibbon, 62, of Beaconsfield, England, has been charged with attempted second-degree murder and two counts of battery after he allegedly held his 33-year-old daughter-in-law’s head underwater multiple times in a pool at his family’s Solterra Resort rental in Davenport.
• The poolside confrontation on Sunday began as an argument over grandchildren before Gibbon allegedly tried to drown his daughter-in-law.
• His 9-year-old granddaughter leaped into the water to intervene and two neighboring vacationers halted the attack by threatening to call the sheriff’s office.
• Deputies arrived at around 5:30 p.m. and arrested Gibbon, who remains held without bail in Polk County Jail pending prosecution.
• Sheriff Grady Judd warned that all visitors, foreign and domestic, must obey local laws or face full legal consequences.
