British Gas Reopens £2,000 Energy Support Fund on Oct. 1 for Customers in Debt

The charity-run scheme clears eligible energy arrears in full for customers able to evidence recent money advice.

Overview

  • Applications open at 9am on Wednesday, October 1, via the British Gas Energy Trust portal for existing British Gas credit and prepayment customers.
  • Eligibility bands require energy debt of £50–£2,000 for prepayment meters or £250–£2,000 for credit accounts, plus proof of money guidance received within the last six months.
  • Grants are paid to suppliers to clear arrears in full with no cash awards or part payments, and applications on closed accounts are not accepted.
  • Cases are typically reviewed in four to six weeks, with successful credits taking up to two additional weeks to appear on customer accounts.
  • The reopening coincides with Ofgem’s 2% price-cap rise to £1,755 a year, as Centrica highlights a £140m voluntary support package and says 6,000 customers were helped last year.
