Overview

  • Area code 257 will be introduced across British Columbia starting May 24, 2025, to meet increasing demand for phone numbers.
  • The new code will overlay existing area codes 236, 250, 604, 672, and 778, covering the same geographic regions.
  • Current phone numbers will remain unchanged, and ten-digit dialing will continue to be required for local calls.
  • Businesses must update systems to recognize 257 as a local code, ensuring seamless communication within the province.
  • Special service numbers like 911, 311, and 988 will remain accessible via three-digit dialing.
