Emergency crews airlifted the boy to Palma after initial treatment in Ibiza revealed the island lacks paediatric intensive care

Overview

  • The eight-year-old fell from a third-floor balcony at the Aparthotel Vibra Bay in San Antonio shortly before 8.30pm, sustaining a traumatic brain injury, skull fracture, cerebral oedema, chest injuries and a broken jaw.
  • He was initially treated at a private Ibiza clinic before emergency crews airlifted him to Son Espases Hospital in Palma, the nearest facility with paediatric intensive care.
  • In a separate incident over the weekend, a 24-year-old British holidaymaker plunged from what amounted to a three-storey fall at the Hard Rock Hotel in Puerto Banus and remains in critical condition at Malaga regional hospital.
  • These accidents add to a string of falls involving British tourists in Ibiza and on the Costa del Sol, including a 19-year-old in San Antonio earlier this month and past fatal cases.
  • Local authorities have launched investigations into fall conditions while safety experts warn that resort balconies and lack of emergency medical infrastructure pose ongoing risks.
