Overview
- IAG Loyalty confirmed a technical issue led some BA Club members to be wrongly told their elite status was renewed and said it will apologise and restore the correct tiers.
- Members who did not meet the new spend targets will be downgraded at their annual renewal around 1 May 2026 under the rules now in force.
- BA rebranded its scheme as The British Airways Club and shifted qualification to spending at £1 per tier point, replacing the old flights or miles system.
- Fewer than one percent of members with Silver status and above were affected by the erroneous renewals, which still equates to several thousand people.
- Downgrades typically move a member down one tier, such as Gold to Silver or Silver to Bronze, and some perks carry over at lower levels, including lounge access for Gold downgraded to Silver.
