British Airways to Raise Avios Reward Prices and Surcharges on December 15

The airline cites rising taxes, third‑party fees, inflation as the reason for the increase.

Overview

  • The changes apply across British Airways flights and partner airlines, affecting both the Avios required and the cash co‑pay on Reward Flights.
  • BA’s own examples show roughly 10% more Avios and higher surcharges, including LondonGeneva economy rising to 10,000 Avios + £1 one‑way and LondonNew York off‑peak business to 176,000 Avios + £399 return.
  • A full updated award chart was not published, so new prices will only be visible in searches once the policy takes effect on 15 December.
  • Existing Reward Flight bookings keep current pricing; after 15 December, changes to date or time at the same destination and season do not reprice, but changes to destination, cabin or seasonality use the new rates.
  • BA confirms upgrades, companion and upgrade voucher redemptions, and Avios & Money options will reflect the updated Avios amounts, with surcharges varying by route and market.
