Brit Awards to Expand Nominee Categories, Introduce R&B Award

The Brit Awards will double the number of nominees for its Artist of the Year and International Artist of the Year categories from five to ten, following criticism over lack of diversity in the 2023 nominations.
The changes come after the 2023 Brit Awards faced backlash for not shortlisting any women in the Best Artist category, which had replaced the gendered categories two years prior.
A new award for Best R&B Act will be introduced in the 2024 ceremony, separating R&B from the combined Pop/R&B category.
Eligibility for the R&B award will cover a 24-month period, instead of the usual 12, to ensure overlooked artists from 2023 can qualify.
British visual artist Rachel Jones will design the 2024 Brit Award Trophy.
