Bristol Burglar Stuck in Chimney Released on $50,000 Bond

The suspect is due in New Britain Superior Court on July 7 to face burglary, criminal trespass and criminal mischief charges.

  • Police responded around 7:20 a.m. on June 22 to Rockwell Park after employees reported someone wedged in the chimney of a Parks & Recreation building.
  • Firefighters freed 35-year-old Carlos Owens following an apparent burglary attempt through the chimney.
  • Owens was charged with third-degree burglary, first-degree criminal trespass and first-degree criminal mischief before posting a $50,000 bond.
  • The chimney and interior of the recreation building were damaged during the extraction, but the suspect emerged unhurt.
  • Authorities noted similar chimney-wedging incidents in other states, some of which have resulted in fatalities.
