• The Botanic Gardens were evacuated and the area was cordoned off, with CityCat ferries skipping the Gardens Point wharf.
• Images published by Nine News showed the man shirtless and shoeless sitting on a park bench.
• Uniformed officers were positioned several metres from the man as they attempted negotiations.
