Overview

  • Brighton and Hove City Council has partnered with char.gy under a £130 million contract to install over 6,000 on-street electric vehicle chargers.
  • The project is supported by the UK Government’s £380 million Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (Levi) fund, designed to address gaps in public EV charging access.
  • Once completed, Brighton and Hove will surpass London boroughs like Hammersmith and Fulham and Westminster as the UK’s best-connected city for on-street EV charging.
  • The initiative aims to address barriers for the 40% of UK households without private driveways, encouraging wider adoption of electric vehicles.
  • Char.gy will operate and maintain the network under a 15-year contract, with pricing to include peak and off-peak tariffs.
