Overview

  • Multiple outlets reported Wednesday, June 24, that Kelly finalized a deal to join CBS this season as a game analyst for the network’s college football coverage.
  • Reports say he is expected to work in a three-person booth calling Mountain West games and to serve as a regular analyst on CBS Sports Network’s Inside College Football.
  • The hiring follows Kelly’s April appearances on CBS Sports Network’s NFL Draft coverage and comes while he is an unofficial, unpaid consultant at the University of Memphis.
  • Kelly was fired by LSU midway through the 2025 season, reached a roughly $54 million buyout after legal disputes, and has publicly said he still intends to return to coaching.
  • CBS holds rights to Mountain West games and one Big Ten game each week, and Kelly’s visibility on those broadcasts could mirror past coaches’ paths from media roles back to sideline jobs.
