Overview
- Lee made the comments on Ranveer Allahbadia’s BeerBiceps show on Monday, Aug 10, 2026, when he recalled facing a young Virat Kohli and noticing an unusual focus.
- He said Kohli’s intensity was “in his eyes” and that the batter’s demeanour signalled a ‘game on’ mindset that set him apart early in his career.
- Lee defended Kohli’s body of work as “impeccable” and warned against judging the player by single poor performances instead of overall records.
- He placed Kohli in a line that runs from Sunil Gavaskar to Sachin Tendulkar and said direct era-to-era comparisons miss key differences in pressure and context.
- Lee highlighted social media as a new source of relentless scrutiny that earlier stars did not face and framed his remarks as a retrospective defence reported by multiple outlets rather than news about Kohli himself.
