Brett Lee Inducted Into Australian Cricket Hall of Fame at Lillee Statue

Lee credits Dennis Lillee's guidance with reshaping his action to sustain a long, high-speed career.

Overview

  • The honour was unveiled on Sunday at the foot of Dennis Lillee’s statue outside the MCG after the Boxing Day Test.
  • Lee amassed 718 international wickets from 1999 to 2012, including 310 in Tests, 380 in ODIs and 28 in T20Is.
  • Renowned for pace, he joined the select group to exceed 160 km/h, with a fastest recorded delivery of 161.1 km/h.
  • As a teenager he ignored Lillee’s warning about his action, broke his back two years later and was then flown to Perth by Cricket Australia to work with the mentor.
  • He was integral to Australia’s 1999, 2003 and 2007 Cricket World Cup triumphs, with Hall chair Peter King praising his impact and sportsmanship.
