Brett Delaney denies manslaughter in Aston Wood Golf Club crash

The Independent Office for Police Conduct is probing police involvement in the pursuit that preceded the fatal collision

  • Brett Delaney, 35, pleaded not guilty at Stafford Crown Court on June 4 to manslaughter, dangerous driving and causing bodily harm charges and was remanded into custody
  • Co-defendants John McDonald, 51, and Johnny McDonald, 22, face manslaughter charges and are due to enter pleas on July 2
  • Mother-of-three Suzanne Cherry, 62, was struck by a van at Aston Wood Golf Club on April 11 and died four days later in Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital
  • West Midlands Police had been following the grey Nissan van on reports of suspicious activity before it left the road and mounted an embankment
  • A two-week trial for Delaney and the McDonald defendants is scheduled to begin on September 22, 2025
