Overview

• Kadija Sultan, 29, allegedly attacked a 9-year-old boy at an Ignacio Boulevard apartment complex Wednesday afternoon in an attempt to steal his bicycle.
• Community members at the complex subdued Sultan and alerted arriving officers before police made the arrest.
• The boy suffered minor injuries and was treated on scene by Novato Fire Protection District medics before being taken for further hospital evaluation.
• Sultan was booked into Marin County Jail on charges of robbery and cruelty to a child and remains held on $75,000 bail.
• Novato Police said Sultan did not know the boy and generally discourages civilian involvement in active crimes despite commending the neighbors’ actions.
