Brendan Taylor Sets 21st-Century ODI Longevity Mark, Enters All-Time Top Three on Return

Back from a three-and-a-half-year ICC ban, the 39-year-old now sits 103 runs shy of Zimbabwe’s ODI runs record.

Overview

  • Playing the first ODI against Sri Lanka in Harare on August 29, Taylor extended his ODI career span to 21 years and 132 days, the longest for any player who debuted since January 1, 2001.
  • He moved to third on the all-time ODI longevity list behind Sachin Tendulkar and Sanath Jayasuriya, surpassing Javed Miandad.
  • Taylor suffered a finger injury while keeping in the second over and left the field, with Clive Manande taking over the gloves.
  • His ODI record now reads 206 matches, 6,684 runs at an average of 35.55, 11 centuries and a highest score of 145 not out, the most hundreds by a Zimbabwean.
  • This ODI marks his first since September 2021 following a three-and-a-half-year ICC suspension, and he is approximately 103 runs short of Andy Flower’s national ODI runs mark.
