Overview
- The club confirmed Monday that André Breitenreiter will replace Daniel Brinkmann, who was sacked on Sept. 15 after 80 matches, ending an interim spell under Yannic Thiel.
- Sporting director Amir Shapourzadeh said Breitenreiter was the club’s preferred candidate because his football philosophy fits Hansa’s goals, and the club has not disclosed the length of the coach’s contract.
- Breitenreiter brings experience that includes leading SC Paderborn (2014) and Hannover 96 (2017) to the Bundesliga and winning the Swiss title with FC Zürich in 2022.
- He will take his first training session with the squad on Sept. 24 and will make his competitive debut in the Landespokal at SV Gützkow on Oct. 3, tests the club will use to assess immediate progress.
- Hansa sit sixth after seven league games with promotion to the 2. Bundesliga the explicit target, so Breitenreiter faces pressure to shore up a leaky defence and produce results that affect the club’s finances and fan confidence.
