Brazil’s November Holidays: Only Black Consciousness Day Lands on a Weekday

With CLT not requiring make-up days for weekend holidays, most workers will see limited opportunities for extended breaks.

Overview

  • November’s national holidays are All Souls’ Day on November 2 (Sunday), Proclamation of the Republic on November 15 (Saturday) and Black Consciousness Day on November 20 (Thursday).
  • Black Consciousness Day on November 20 is a nationwide holiday established by Law 14,759/2023.
  • Under CLT rules, holidays that coincide with weekends do not trigger automatic extra compensation or substitute days off, though collective agreements may grant compensatory rest to those who work.
  • Public services will observe pontos facultativos on the afternoons of December 24 and December 31, which may shorten office hours.
  • Some regions add local breaks in November, with Rondônia listing seven municipal holidays in cities including Ariquemes, Ji-Paraná, Vilhena, Pimenta Bueno, Cacoal and Pimenteiras do Oeste.
