Brazil's Central Bank Tallies R$9.92 Billion in Unclaimed 'Forgotten' Funds

Claims are filed only via the Valores a Receber portal under two-step authentication with facial validation.

Overview

  • The Central Bank’s October balance published on December 9 shows R$9.92 billion still unclaimed, with R$12.6 billion already returned since 2022.
  • Of the total, R$7.73 billion belong to 48.7 million individuals and R$2.19 billion to 4.9 million companies.
  • Nearly 65% of beneficiaries have R$10 or less to receive, and the largest holdings are with banks (about R$6 billion), consortia administrators (R$2.5 billion) and cooperatives (R$866 million).
  • Eligible individuals may opt into automatic PIX refunds if they have a silver or gold gov.br account with two-step verification and a CPF-type PIX key.
  • Institutions that have not adopted PIX returns and joint accounts require manual requests, and the Central Bank warns it does not request personal data by phone or message.
