Brazilian Domestic Travel Spending Rises 11.7% in 2024 as Trip Volumes Hold Steady

Rising outlays reflect pricier itineraries and a shift toward air travel.

  • Income shaped participation and budgets, as households earning four or more minimum wages averaged R$3,032 per trip and were far likelier to travel, and lack of money was the top reason for not traveling at 39.2%.
  • Air travel edged past buses for personal trips for the first time (12.3% vs. 12.0%), and most travelers stayed with friends or relatives (40.7%) while hotels were used in 18.8% of trips and were preferred by higher‑income households.
