Brazilian Dermatologists Spell Out Exact Sunscreen Use for Summer

Daily SPF 30 is urged because UVA persists year-round, with UVB peaking in summer.

Overview

  • Apply sunscreen at least 30 minutes before sun exposure to ensure it forms an effective protective film.
  • Use the right dose: about one teaspoon for the face and neck, and roughly three tablespoons or two handfuls for the body.
  • Reapply every three hours in routine conditions, reducing the interval to two hours after swimming, heavy sweating or prolonged sun.
  • Choose face-specific oil-free or gel formulas to lower the risk of clogged pores and acne.
  • Do not mix sunscreen with makeup or skincare, and cover easy-to-forget areas such as ears, nape, hands, feet, neck and scalp, since clothing and swimwear do not fully block UV.
