Brazilian Banks Face Boleto, App Disruptions on Payday as Operator Activates Contingency Plan

Boleto operator Nuclea reports a fresh Oct. 7 slowdown, with safeguards in place following widespread Oct. 6 complaints.

Overview

  • Customers across Itaú, Nubank, Bradesco, Caixa, Banco do Brasil and others reported failures paying boletos and, in some cases, using Pix on Oct. 6, the month’s fifth business day.
  • Complaint volumes tracked by Downdetector spiked through the afternoon, with Itaú reports reaching about 5,000 around 17:10, according to G1.
  • Itaú acknowledged an app instability and said it was working to restore service, while Nubank reported a temporary barcode-payment fault that was resolved.
  • Bradesco said its systems were operating normally and attributed any issues to external origins, and several banks later indicated operations were returning to normal.
  • On Oct. 7, Nuclea, which administers boleto processing, said it identified new slowness and activated contingency protocols to limit impact on payers.
