Brazil Zeroes Import Tariffs on 970 Items, Sets New Antidumping Duties

The shift aims to ease supply bottlenecks in key inputs as the government keeps pressure on underpriced imports that could harm local producers.

Overview

  • Gecex-Camex, which met Thursday, zeroed import taxes on 970 capital goods and tech items, including 779 routine renewals and 191 reversals of hikes approved earlier this year.
  • The list also covers medicines for diabetes, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and schizophrenia, plus farm pest controls, textile inputs, hops and hospital nutrition supplies.
  • Officials said they granted relief after companies showed no local equivalent or not enough supply to meet demand.
  • Requests stay open until March 30, and the 191 electronics will carry a zero rate for four months while the government completes its review.
  • In the same meeting, the committee set five-year antidumping tariffs on ethanolamines from China and polyethylene resins from the United States and Canada, fixing polyethylene at earlier provisional levels to avoid extra strain on buyer costs.
