Overview
- An interministerial Portaria from the Fisheries and Environment ministries was published in the Diário Oficial on Jan. 13, establishing the 2026 defeso calendar.
- The ban covers capture, transport, processing and sale during the listed windows, with the first period running Jan. 18–23 for Piauí, Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Sergipe and Bahia.
- Subsequent windows span Feb. 1–6, Feb. 17–22, Mar. 3–8 and Mar. 18–23 across Amapá, Pará, Maranhão and the northeastern states, with Apr. 1–6 limited to Amapá and Pará.
- Authorities may extend restrictions to Apr. 17–22 if reproductive activity continues, reflecting the variable timing of andadas by region.
- Exceptional commercialization is allowed only with a Declaração de Estoque submitted to IBAMA by the last business day before each window, and violations face sanctions under Law 9.605/1998 and Decree 6.514/2008 with live seizures returned to the wild.
