Brazil Services Edge Higher in August, Extending Record Streak to Seven Months

Economists credit IT and transport for the resilience, with a warning that household services may lose steam as demand softens.

Overview

  • Services volume rose 0.1% in August from July, the seventh straight monthly gain, taking activity 18.7% above the February 2020 level.
  • Compared with a year earlier the sector grew 2.5%, and the 12‑month rate reached 3.1%; nominal revenue increased 0.6% on the month and 7% on the year.
  • Four of five activity groups advanced in August, led by professional and administrative services (+0.4%), while information and communication declined 0.5%.
  • Services for households climbed 1% for a second month, but economists warn this rebound may fade as easing service inflation and a softer labor pulse point to cooler demand.
  • IBGE cites information technology and transport as the main 2025 drivers, with IT up 6.3% through August versus a 2.6% sector average.
