Brazil Reopens Electoral Registry Nationwide

Restoring online, in-person services plus free voter clearance certificates lets citizens update or regularize registration before the 2026 elections.

Overview

  • The Justiça Eleitoral reopened the cadastro eleitoral, which resumed operations on Tuesday, restoring full registration services across Brazil.
  • Voters can now request first-time registration, transfer their electoral domicile, enroll or update biometric data, revise personal details and regularize canceled titles.
  • The Autoatendimento portal and the e‑Título app allow electronic requests and status tracking, though some cases will require in-person visits to cartórios, central units or TRE posts.
  • The Certidão de Quitação Eleitoral is again issued free via the TSE portal and can be used for hiring into public posts, contest registration and passport procedures.
  • The registry had been closed since May 7 to let the Justiça Eleitoral prepare voter lists for the 2026 elections, and the reopening gives citizens time to correct records while regional TREs manage local scheduling and document checks.
