  • Finance Minister Dario Durigan confirmed on Monday that the government has placed a R$1,741 projection for the 2027 minimum wage in the draft budget (PLOA) to be sent to Congress by August 31.
  • The number represents a R$120 rise, or 7.4% above the current R$1,621, and is R$24 higher than the estimate in April’s budget guidance (LDO).
  • Under law the final wage will be set using the INPC inflation index for the 12 months to November plus any allowed real gain, so the December INPC release can still change the figure.
  • Because roughly half of social-security payments and other programs use the minimum as a reference, the projection increases mandatory spending for pensions, BPC, unemployment insurance and MEI contributions.
  • Technicians have begun internal simulations that would treat active workers and beneficiaries differently, but no policy decision has been made and the government says it will not desindex benefits for now.
