Overview

  • The Supreme Court unsealed a 1,125-page federal police report on Wednesday that alleges ABIN was used to spy on judges, lawmakers and journalists during Bolsonaro’s presidency.
  • Police identified Bolsonaro as both aware of the scheme and its principal beneficiary based on witness testimony, seized documents and search operation findings.
  • More than 30 individuals have been formally accused, including Bolsonaro’s son Carlos, former ABIN chief Alexandre Ramagem and current agency head Luiz Fernando Correa.
  • Investigators noted that evidence from the surveillance report can still be used in a separate probe into Bolsonaro’s alleged 2022 coup attempt and criminal organization charges.
  • Bolsonaro denies any wrongdoing and his legal team has yet to review the full dossier as Prosecutor-General Paulo Gonet considers potential charges.
