Brazil Opens 1,136 Specialist Training Vacancies Through Mais Médicos Program

The 12-month, part-time scheme places newly trained specialists in underserved cities to expand access to care in the public health system.

Overview

  • Registrations for the third cycle are open with a short window running through Thursday, July 16, and applicants must enroll online to be considered for immediate placement.
  • The Ministry of Health released an edital offering 1,136 immediate vacancies across 24 specialization courses that combine service and training over 12 months at 20 hours per week.
  • Vacancies are targeted to reach underserved areas with 537 positions in interior municipalities, 335 in state capitals and 266 in metropolitan regions, spread across 309 municipalities and 26 states.
  • The edital sets explicit specialty and quota rules including 290 spots for perioperative anesthesiology, 128 for transthoracic ecocardiography, 74 for minimally invasive general surgery, 698 places for open competition, 236 for ethnic-racial quotas and 202 for people with disabilities.
  • The program builds on the Agora Tem Especialistas framework established by law to boost SUS specialist capacity and could shorten waits for specialized procedures in smaller cities while placing newly trained doctors into public services.
