Pele, the Brazilian soccer legend, was honored on the first anniversary of his death with a ceremony that included a projection of his jersey on the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro.
Pope Francis sent a letter for the ceremony, praising Pele's positive traits and his impact on the sport.
Other tributes included religious ceremonies at the Museu Pele in Santos and in Tres Corações, where Pele was born.
Santos FC, where Pele spent much of his career, held a tribute at its Vila Belmiro Stadium.
FIFA also paid respects with a video of highlights of Pele's career, stating 'Pele’s legacy will always live on.'
