Brazil Formalizes 3.90% INSS Adjustment, Lifts Benefit Ceiling to R$8,475.55 for 2026

An interministerial order in the Official Gazette makes the INPC-based correction effective from January 1 with updated tables, prorated rules for recent awards and payments rolling out on the INSS calendar.

  • Published on January 12, the Previdência–Fazenda order applies the 3.90% INPC reajuste retroactively to January 1, 2026.
  • The minimum benefit and related floors, including BPC and the auxílio‑reclusão, are set at R$1,621, with corrected payouts scheduled from late January into early February.
  • Beneficiaries whose pensions or retirements began after February 2025 will receive proportional increases using monthly indices defined by the government.
  • More than 12 million people with benefits above the minimum will see the adjusted amounts in early February, while those at the minimum follow a separate late‑January to early‑February window.
  • The updated worker contribution brackets are progressive at 7.5%, 9%, 12% and 14% across salary ranges up to the new ceiling of R$8,475.55.
