Brazil Faces Weather Split as Storm Alerts Target South and Heat Warnings Cover Interior

Fresh alerts highlight persistent rainfall in Santa Catarina and Paraná through Oct. 3 with flood risk, alongside critical dryness over the Southeast and Center-West.

Overview

  • Inmet and partner services warn of storms through Friday across Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul, with some North areas (Acre, Rondônia and western Amazonas) also under risk for heavy rain, lightning, wind gusts near 60 km/h and possible hail.
  • Santa Catarina is forecast to receive persistent rain from Oct. 2–4, with 50–100 mm possible near Greater Florianópolis, prompting Defesa Civil guidance for flooding, urban disruptions and localized landslide risk.
  • In Paraná, a new Inmet alert covers roughly 150 cities until 10:00 on Friday, citing rain of up to 30 mm/hour or 50 mm/day, wind to 60 km/h and hail potential, while Simepar projects two frontal passages early in the month with heavier totals in the west and southwest and hotter, drier conditions in the north.
  • Large swaths of the Southeast and Center-West face intense heat and very low humidity, with temperatures near 40 °C and relative humidity dropping to 12–30%, leading São Paulo’s Civil Defense to urge hydration, limited sun exposure and wildfire caution.
  • October outlooks signal high variability, with more frequent afternoon and evening convection in the second half of the month and wetter tendencies in parts of Bahia, as Paraíba posts concurrent yellow alerts for inland low humidity and coastal daily totals up to 50 mm, and Amapá expects near to slightly above normal rain with an unstable start in Macapá.
