Brazil Allocates R$11.7 Billion for Urban Drainage and Slope Protection in 235 Cities

Lula urges rapid delivery, with projects now entering Caixa analysis and environmental licensing before funds flow.

  • Resources will come from the federal budget (OGU) and the FGTS, within the 2025 PAC Seleções edition that foresees R$49.2 billion across four axes.
  • Lula pressed stakeholders for speed in concluding works before 2026 as disbursement depends on local preparations, Caixa review and permits.
  • Highlighted awards include macrodrenage in Duque de Caxias (R$554 million) and Camaçari (R$240 million) and containment projects in São Bernardo do Campo, Olinda and Santarém.
  • Examples of selected projects include R$160 million for drainage and reservoirs in Uberlândia, R$63 million for works on the Ipiranga stream in Juiz de Fora with a 27,000 m³ detention basin, and about R$115 million for three flood-control basins in Pouso Alegre with initial works slated for 2026.
