Braves Trade for Rangers' Outfielder J.P. Martinez

Martinez to provide outfield depth, Owens heads to Texas in exchange

The Atlanta Braves have acquired outfielder J.P. Martinez from the Texas Rangers in exchange for minor league right-hander Tyler Owens.
Martinez, 27, made his major league debut last season with the Rangers, batting .225 with one homer and four RBIs in 17 games.
In the minor leagues last season, Martinez hit .297 with 14 homers, 60 RBIs and 41 stolen bases across three different levels.
Owens, 23, had a 0-6 record with four saves and a 3.03 ERA in 29 games last season, split between Double-A Mississippi and High-A Rome.
Martinez is expected to provide outfield depth for the Braves and will compete for a bench job in spring training.
