Overview

  • Atlanta announced Thursday that Riley had core muscle surgery in Philadelphia performed by specialist Dr. William Meyers and will miss the remainder of 2025.
  • Riley first felt lower abdominal discomfort in mid-July, returned from the injured list, then re-injured the area on a diving tag play during the Speedway Classic.
  • This is Riley’s second consecutive season cut short after a fractured right hand ended his 2024 campaign.
  • Nacho Alvarez Jr. will handle third base as the Braves rework the roster, which also included claiming Cal Quantrill, optioning Dane Dunning, adding Jake Fraley, and placing Luke Williams on the 10-day IL.
  • In a difficult year that has Atlanta at 58-69 and fourth in the NL East, rookie Hurston Waldrep notched wins in his first four outings while allowing one run or fewer in each, a feat last matched by Fernando Valenzuela in 1981.
