Overview
- Brave 1.81, due August 5, 2025, will automatically disable Windows 11’s Recall feature for all browser tabs by default.
- Developers are using Microsoft’s SetInputScope API to assign an IS_PRIVATE input scope to each window, instructing Recall not to capture or index Brave content.
- Shivan Kaul Sahib, Brave’s VP of privacy and security, said the block is vital to prevent sensitive browsing data from being stored in a persistent database.
- Users who want Recall screenshots can re-enable the feature via a new toggle in Brave’s privacy settings.
- Unlike Signal’s DRM-based method, Brave’s approach only targets Recall’s automated snapshots and preserves compatibility with other screen-capture and accessibility tools.
