Brave Launches AI Assistant Leo for Desktop Users, Features Privacy-Focused Chatbot Services
AI Assistant Leo is available for free with Brave's 1.60 desktop version, offering features like summarizing content and translating text, with the option of upgrading to a premium version for faster response times and access to larger language models. All interactions are conducted via an anonymized server for user privacy and won't be used for model training.
- Brave, an alternative web browser company, has released its AI-powered assistant, Leo, to all desktop users with version 1.60 of Brave. Users can access Leo by clicking the Leo icon in the sidebar or typing a question in the address bar and clicking the Leo icon.
- Leo handles context-aware requests including summarizing webpages or videos, translating text, and rewriting phrases. It is based on Llama 2 and Anthropic’s Claude large language models (LLMs) and offers faster, better, and more accurate responses.
- Brave is also offering a premium version, Leo Premium, for $15 per month that grants users better language models and higher rate limits. Leo Premium users will receive models like Llama 2 70B, Code Llama 70B, and Anthropic Claude Instant.
- All requests to Leo are routed through an anonymous server to maintain user privacy and cannot be connected back to a particular IP. The interactions are discarded immediately after generation and are not stored on any server or used in model training. Brave claims that subscriptions are validated by unlinkable tokens, avoiding tracking of user activity or email.
- Leo will also be rolled out to Android and iOS systems 'in the coming months', concentrating on user privacy. Brave suggests that additional models will soon be available to Leo Premium customers along with access to higher-quality conversations, priority queuing during peak usage, higher rate limits, and early access to new features.
