Brandenburg to Launch First Child Protection Clinics in 2026 With State Funding to Follow in 2027

The new hospital units will standardize abuse assessments to streamline cooperation with youth services.

Overview

  • Officials named four initial sites at hospitals in Potsdam, Eberswalde, Lauchhammer and Neuruppin, with a fifth location planned in Cottbus.
  • Potsdam’s clinic is slated to open in April 2026 as part of the first wave starting next year.
  • The government allocated €125,000 in lottery funds as start-up support before regular financing shifts to the state budget in 2027.
  • These interdisciplinary outpatient centers will evaluate suspected cases of physical, sexual or emotional abuse and coordinate follow-up across medical and child welfare services.
  • Brandenburg had been the only German state without such services, and leaders from multiple parties endorsed the rollout.
