Brandenburg Reports Rise in Right-Wing Crimes in Q2 as Violent Cases Jump

Interior Ministry figures show propaganda offenses dominate and remain subject to later revisions.

Overview

  • Recorded right-wing politically motivated offenses increased to 870 in April–June from 796 in January–March, a rise of nearly ten percent.
  • Violent cases nearly doubled to 35 from 19, with cited incidents in Potsdam, Fürstenwalde/Spree and Cottbus.
  • Offenses against refugees and refugee accommodations rose to 52 from 42, alongside 91 additional racist crimes, most directed at people rather than property.
  • Crimes against politicians fell to 105 from 177, with most targeting AfD figures but affecting all major parties, including cases involving Olaf Scholz and Robert Habeck.
  • Well over 500 cases involved banned symbols and propaganda, and officials note the counts are provisional; separate federal data show Brandenburg led Germany in per-capita right-wing offenses in 2024.
