Brandenburg Pushes to Preserve Key Rail Link to Rostock

Local leaders advocate for maintaining and expanding the Neustadt to Rostock rail line, citing economic and tourism benefits.

Two Brandenburg counties, Prignitz and Ostprignitz-Ruppin, have presented a feasibility study supporting the economic viability of the rail line from Neustadt (Dosse) to Rostock.
The proposed project, titled 'Karower Kreuz 365+', aims to integrate the line into the Germany-wide 'Deutschlandtakt' schedule, enhancing connectivity.
The plan includes upgrading the Karow station as a major hub with connections to Ludwigslust and Waren (Müritz), and expanding the single-track section near Rostock.
Projected costs for the upgrade range from 167 to 170 million euros, depending on whether electric or biodiesel trains are used.
Local officials warn that discontinuing the current RB 73 and RB 74 services would significantly impact regional living standards, emphasizing the line's importance for local economy and tourism.
