Overview

  • Bradley John Murdoch passed away on July 15 in palliative care at Alice Springs Hospital without revealing where he buried British backpacker Peter Falconio’s remains.
  • Murdoch had been serving a life sentence without parole since his 2005 conviction for murdering Falconio and attempting to kidnap Joanne Lees, under a 2016 ‘no body, no parole’ law.
  • The Northern Territory Department of Corrections confirmed the death in custody and said the matter will be examined by the NT Coroner.
  • In late June, NT Police doubled their reward to A$500,000 and Acting Commander Mark Grieve appealed for anyone with new leads to come forward.
  • On the 24th anniversary of the murder, Falconio’s father Luciano made a deathbed plea for Murdoch to disclose his son’s burial site so the family can finally find closure.
