Brooke Shields recently suffered a grand mal seizure, caused by low sodium levels due to drinking too much water. The incident occurred as she was preparing for her solo show in New York City.
Actor Bradley Cooper acted as a first responder, accompanying Shields to the hospital after she collapsed. He was contacted through a string of assistants when attempts to reach Shield's husband, Chris Henchy, were unsuccessful.
Shields woke up in an ambulance with Cooper holding her hand, a scenario she described as 'odd and surreal'.
The sommelier at the restaurant where Shields collapsed tried to reach her husband but was unsuccessful. Instead, his assistant, who in turn called another assistant, reached out to Cooper for help.
Shields explained that her excessive water consumption was due to intense singing practice and dehydration. Doctors initially wondered if she was intentionally limiting her salt intake.
Shields recovered from the seizure and the bronchitis she developed in the ICU, and was able to continue her series of shows at the famed Café Carlyle, New York City.
