Overview

• Patrick Leonard, 23, was sentenced to 24 years in prison plus one year on licence, and Lannee Ksigwa, 19, received 12 years’ detention in a young offender institution at Bradford Crown Court on October 1.
• A jury convicted both men of raping a 12-year-old girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons.
• DNA evidence established that Leonard fathered the victim’s child, and the court heard he raped her while knowing he was HIV positive, with the girl not contracting the virus.
• Leonard admitted two rapes before trial and was found guilty of additional counts, while Ksigwa was convicted of two rapes.
• Both must serve at least two-thirds of their terms, will be on the sex offenders register for life, and are barred from contacting the victim, as police praised her courage and urged victims to report abuse.
