Braathens Places Airbus Charter Units in Bankruptcy as ATR Flights Continue

The filing follows failed attempts to finance a controlled wind‑down of the loss‑making Airbus venture launched in 2022.

Overview

  • Braathens International Airways AB and Braathens Crew AB filed for bankruptcy in the Solna/Stockholm District Court, ending Airbus operations immediately.
  • All charter flights operated with Airbus jets for tour operators, including Ving and Apollo, have been cancelled with immediate effect.
  • About 200 employees are affected and covered by Sweden’s state wage guarantee, and union consultations on redundancies are starting.
  • BraathensATR72-600 regional and ACMI operations continue unaffected, with Braathens Regional Airlines, Braathens Regional Airways, Braathens People and Braathens Support outside the proceedings.
  • Management cites delayed aircraft deliveries, higher-than-expected start-up and operating costs, weakening tour-operator demand and over SEK 300 million in owner support that failed to restore profitability.
