Overview

  • State-run BPCL and Oil India signed the joint-venture agreement on August 26 at BPCL’s Mumbai headquarters in the presence of chairmen Sanjay Khanna and Ranjit Rath.
  • The new company will establish CNG stations and deliver piped natural gas to households, commercial users, industry and transport across Arunachal Pradesh.
  • The consortium had secured the state’s city gas distribution licence in the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board’s 12th bidding round.
  • Oil India pointed to last year’s commissioning of the Kumchai–Kusijan gas pipeline as bolstering supply readiness and the Northeast hydrocarbon vision.
  • Company statements positioned the rollout as expanding clean-energy access and local development, aligning with the national aim to raise natural gas’s energy share to about 15% by 2030 from just over 6%.
