- India’s share of global energy demand is projected to rise from about 7% in 2023 to over 12% by 2050.
- Oil consumption is forecast to grow from 5.4 million barrels per day to 9.1 million bpd by 2050, with natural gas use more than doubling to roughly 153 bcm.
- Under the Current Trajectory, coal remains the largest energy source with a share above 40% in 2050, while in the Below 2‑Degrees pathway coal falls to about 16%.
- Renewables led by solar and wind expand strongly, becoming the largest primary energy source in the Below 2‑Degrees scenario and the second largest in the Current Trajectory.
- Electricity’s share of energy use rises from around 20% in 2023 to over 30% in the Current Trajectory and to just under 50% in the Below 2‑Degrees case, while import dependence stays high.
