Overview

  • Exploration well 1-BP-13-SPS in the Bumerangue block was drilled to 5,855 metres and intersected a 500-metre gross hydrocarbon column beneath 2,372 metres of water.
  • Rig-site analysis detected elevated carbon dioxide levels in the pre-salt carbonate reservoir, posing potential extraction and processing challenges.
  • The Bumerangue find is BP’s tenth discovery of 2025 and its largest since the 1999 Shah Deniz gas field in Azerbaijan.
  • BP holds a 100 percent interest in the block, secured under a production sharing contract managed by Pré-Sal Petróleo S.A. in 2022.
  • The company plans detailed lab analyses and will seek regulatory approval for further appraisal as it integrates the discovery into its 2030 production targets.
