Overview
- Officers responded around 5:45 p.m. on Dec. 3 to reports of boys handling a gun at a park near Sundance Parkway and 219th Lane.
- Police found a 10-year-old with a handgun in his backpack and a 16-year-old also involved after witnesses said the weapon was shown off and then hidden.
- The 16-year-old was booked into custody, and the 10-year-old was released to a guardian; both face counts including minor in possession, disorderly conduct with a firearm, and possession of a concealed firearm.
- The seized handgun was not loaded, police said, and the juveniles’ parents or guardians are not facing charges.
- Buckeye police credited the arrests to their new grant-funded Impact Team, and investigators have not said how the youths obtained the firearm.
